Carl G. Brewer Community Center

The Carl G. Brewer Community Center was expanded and renovated to honor the legacy of former Wichita mayor Carl Brewer while creating a modern community hub for recreation, programming, and neighborhood events. The project expanded the original McAdams Recreation Center by 24,000 SF, tripling the size of the existing facility. The completed center now features two gymnasiums, a commercial kitchen, dining room, locker rooms, a multi-purpose room, and multiple meeting rooms. The project also included renovation of the existing building and construction of a new parking lot to improve accessibility and capacity.

Community Impact

The facility officially opened on December 6, when community members gathered to celebrate the grand opening. The well-attended event included remarks from local officials, live entertainment, interactive demonstrations, and self-guided tours of the new facility.

A key element of the project was the incorporation of African-inspired artwork created by both local artists and artists from Ghana. One of the most significant pieces unveiled during the opening was “The Village,” a mural that reflects Mayor Brewer’s heritage and the strong sense of community that inspired the project.

Craftsmanship Recognition

The maple panel installation in the new gymnasium received special recognition from the project architect. The architect noted that while this design has been implemented on numerous projects by their firm, this installation was the highest quality execution they had seen.
