Hope Community Church

Location: Andover, KS Owner: Hope Community Church Architect: WDM Architects

The Hope Community Church project consists of a new 13,400 SF worship center addition, a 5,300 SF classroom addition, and a remodel of “The Cup” area which is a fellowship hall.

The Cup and the new worship center are connected by a new covered timber frame breezeway with a custom stone fire pit off to the side for spontaneous gatherings. The worship center is a true timber frame structure with massive 16”x22” Douglas Fir columns and wood dowel joint connections. The main structure was raised in just under 4 days. The frame was then enclosed with 6-1/2” SIPS panels (structural insulated panel system).

The electrical chases located within the SIPS had to be carefully reviewed to ensure proper locations and that all electrical and AV requirements were accounted for prior to fabrication of the panels, since there are no exposed conduit visible within the sanctuary.

In the back of the worship center, you will find space to enjoy a cup of coffee from one of the 12 coffee taps and fellowship with others at the coffee bar. The North and South walls feature huge 18’x16’ windows with expansive views of the Frisbee Golf Course as well as the outdoor amphitheater in the fields along the South side of the property. Through the South window, you can see the new classroom addition which features 10 new classrooms, including a classroom for special needs children. To the North of the new classroom is a courtyard with artificial turf for outdoor activities.

Many aspects of this project have been thought up and designed on the spot, so lots of flexibility and collaboration have been utilized between Hope Church, the architect and engineers, the A/V company, and many donors.
