Newton Fire/EMS Station #3Location: Newton, Kansas Owner: City of Newton, Kansas Architect: LK Architecture Construction: Eby Construction
This project consisted of constructing a new 12,700 SF fire station and modifications to the existing site. The new fire station houses four, two-man bunk rooms with full bathrooms, an exercise room, offices, a training room, and a living area/kitchen. The facility has a four-vehicle, two-aisle drive-through bay and a one-vehicle expansion bay. The structure is comprised of load bearing concrete masonry units and the roof is constructed of steel bar joists and metal decking. The interior living area flooring is polished concrete.
This LEED Silver project incorporates features such as a rain-water harvest system and a retention pond to eliminate storm water run-off from the site. LEED points were also gained from water-efficient plumbing fixtures, mechanical system efficiencies, and a design that allowed abundant day light to enter within the building. As general contractor, Eby contributed to LEED points with waste material management, enhanced commissioning, indoor air quality management and material selections.
