Location: Great Bend, KS Owner: Wheatland Electric Cooperative Architect: GLMV ArchitectureWheatland Electric Cooperative selected Eby Construction as the construction manager for their new 30,000-square-foot facility in Great Bend. The new campus centralized their southcentral district operations and consolidated Wheatland’s administrative and warehouse operations. Construction started on the new facility in September of 2020 and was completed in July of 2021.
The new building is customer-service focused with a drive-up window to assist members with payments and other needs. In addition, Wheatland included a public meeting room where members are welcome to hold community meetings.
In the front lawn of the facility, Wheatland incorporated a “green energy park” with educational pieces to teach about green energy solutions such as a wind-power and solar power. Another “green” feature included in the park is a rainwater storage system which is used to assist in watering the landscaping. The park includes a pergola for members to sit and enjoy the scenery as well as an electric vehicle charging station.
The new facility will also house a mobile substation, designed for emergency and severe weather outages caused by tornadoes, ice events, and other natural disasters within Wheatland’s eastern operations.
